Tungsten E

T

I’ll put up a complete review of the E (my personal opinions) later, but for now I would like to say a few things:

  1. This is an excellent unit for the price. If you’re interested in a responsive PDA with a good feature suite, reasonable multimedia, absolutely rock solid PIM performance but no wireless options – this is the way to go.
  2. The screen really is that bright. Much better than anything in the PPC camp and equivalent to those offered on the Zire 71 series. I’ve heard that the T2 has the same screen as well…
  3. The PDA has a plastic not metal case. The paint on top is metallic. schmitt on brighthand proved this conclusively when he attempted to polish his E and ended up exposeing the white plastic underneath (he attempted to remove scratches thinking it was metal). Rest assured under normal wiping etc, the paint will not be removed.
  4. The stitching on the supplied flip cover will scratch the case if it is carried in your pocket or rubs frequently. This was my sole disappointment with this unit. Solutions range from simply pasting tape over the stiches (a stopgap at best) to buying a good PDA case/not using the flip cover. I believe the engineers designing the flip cover and those designing the casing weren’t talking to each other. I definitely think this was an oversight on Palm1’s part. If it weren’t for this, I would be recommending this unit wholeheartedly. As it is right now, I always have to include this caveat ;)
